Getting into good health

This resource supports the Health Studies Course. The focus of this resource is the introduction of basic health concepts, models and frameworks used in describing the definitions and dimensions of health, characteristics necessary for good health, and explaining the relationships between beliefs, attitudes, values and health behaviour. Activities provided will assist students to develop the necessary self-management, communication and inquiry skills required to investigate and report on health issues.

Catching on to good health

This resource supports the Health Studies Course, focusing on the concept of personal health. It explores personal health influences, factors that enable and reinforce health behaviours and approaches to improving health. Activities provided will assist students to assess risks to personal health and plan the actions necessary for improving health as well as examining the current health care system and the influence of different factors on the formation of beliefs, values and attitudes towards personal health behaviour.

Health Studies Unit 1C

This resource supports the Health Unit 1C senior secondary course. The focus is personal, peer and family health. The resource explores the positive and negative influences on an individual’s health behaviour. Learning experiences provide opportunities to develop skills and strategies to understand and manage these influences in order to make positive decisions. Students are required to investigate relevant issues which provide them with the opportunity to develop accurate searching techniques, make connections between information and communicate their findings using a variety of styles.

Community of Culture

The focus of the 2A unit is popular culture and its impact on the health of individuals and communities. The unit addresses the significance of the social determinants of health and how these interact with aspects of popular culture to influence health behaviour.

Health Studies Unit 2B

This CD-ROM supports the Health Studies philosophy that health is a dynamic quality of human life. An emphasis on developing the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to promote an understanding of the importance of personal and community actions in promoting health is evident. The focus of the 2B unit is technology, the environment and its impact on community health. The unit explores how attitudes, resources, changing technology, services and environmental factors influence the development of a range of community aspects. The concept of community development, the importance of participation, empowerment and preventative strategies are all studied.
