Before you begin
If you require basic computing assistance or help on how to use the Internet you may wish to click here. This link will take you to the “Getting Started” section of this site. This section provides introductory information about: What is the Internet?; Learning online; and a Typing Tutor. The section also has information about occupational health and safety issues involved with computer usage.
Using the Website requires an understanding of navigation. Navigation simply translates to the way you move around the site. This site has 5 Navigation systems. They will be explained in the sentences below.
1. Navigation Bar - this is the two strips you see across the top of the page. Listed in a row are the following headings'
WestOne Home - Site Map - Catalogue - Contact Us - Help - Site Search
Products & Resources- Services & Facilities - About Us - Flexible Learning - Links
This will appear on all pages of the WestOne Website. The top row of words are simple links to summary pages. That is if you click with the mouse & cursor on any of these headings, new pages will appear in the content screen. The bottom row are drop down menus. This means there are submenus available under the word. If you place the mouse over the word then the dropdown will appear. You can select one of those item by moving the cursor onto the name that you are interested in and clicking the mouse button. This will take you to that page.
2. Side Navigation Panel – This is a list of the sub categories contained within the main category. This allows you to skip around within a category to find information you require.
3. Spotlight Areas – On the right hand side of the home page you will see a number of links. These will also appear in the drop down menus but are most easy to access from the home page. To view the page that these link to simply click on the word that you are interested in.
4. Site Map – This is like a table of contents page in a book. If you click on words that say “Site Map” you will see how the information is organised on the site. From this page you can have an overview of content and go directly to the page you would like to view
*Click on the little triangle next to the item to expand the view and to view the sub categories below.
5. Site Search – Click your mouse in the rectangle in the middle of the page, type a keyword and click on the search button. A list of pages related to the keyword will be shown.
